Due to shortage of funds, only the old main - dirt road to the Administration-Camp and up to the plateau in the center of the Forest Reserve are still passable, but only with four-wheel drive vehicles. All other roads are overgrown or eroded and no more usable. We need to construct about 74 km of road! Estimated costs: 36.000.- Euro
We don't want to use any machines! Construction and maintenance of the roads shall give the people from the surrounding villages work and income.
Picture: Albert Schenk pays workers from the villages. With 3.500 Euro you will sponsor 7,5 km of road in the Thuma Forest Reserve. Thereafter 250 Euro per year for another 3 years for the maintenance of the road. Therefore the part of the road you sponsored will be named as you wish, for example Musterman-Drive or after a company-name. For every more year you sponsor the road-maintenance, the road will remain in your given name. You will receive a Certificate of sponsorship and a detailed map of Thuma Forest Reserve in which your road will be marked and with GPS-data. A signpost with your chosen name will mark the distance or road you have sponsord. Of course can you also support the road construction project with smaller donations! OUR GOALS: 1) To rehabilitate and upgrade the existing roads within two years, so a saloon car may be able to use them (See the black marked line on the left map above). 2) To extend the road network, so that visitors can reach the most interesting and beautiful areas of Thuma Forest Reserve by 4x4 vehicle (See the red marked line on the right map above). The extended road network will also contribute towards more efficient control of poaching and illegal cutting of trees and bamboo in the reserve.
